TAVISTOCK runners Laurence and Mary Sargeant competed in this autumn’s Original Mountain Marathon Autumn Series lite on the North York Moors.

This is a two day event combining mountain running with route choice and navigation skills and it is a lot of fun for all the competitors. It involves running in pairs, for nine hours over two days, carrying all the water, food and kit that you need.

Laurence and Mary ran a total of 28 miles and scored 460 points in all and came 23rd out of 43 pairs. They were fourth in the mixed veterans category.

At 65 and 68 years of age, and by far the oldest pair of competitors and they felt that they had performed well; did not get lost and visited a very beautiful part of the UK that was new to them.

This is the third OMM that they have competed this year and fully intend to compete in the next one that will be held in the Brecon Beacons in April 2017.
