AFTER weeks of wet and wintry conditions disrupting the horse racing calendar, the Lamerton Hunt managed to host their point-to-point steeplechase races at Kilworthy on Sunday.

Over 100 entries were received across the six races with some good battles throughout the day.

In the first race of the day, the Panel Commercials Lamerton Foxhounds Members, Subscribers and Farmers Race, Honest Deed, a winner of two of his starts last season, clinched victory much to the delight of trainer Dean Summersby. He fended off challenges from Brick and Beams, trained by Pauline Geering, and Angles Hill.

In a field of 26 horses running the Yvonne Watson and Steve Luxton Memorial Maiden Race, it was Druid Spitfire trained by Elisabeth Kessler who romped home to victory ahead of Moonaro in second and Coco Shambhala in third.

A returning Dicky Bob, trained by Walkhampton’s Verity Nicholls, clinched victory in the Condy Mathias Mixed Open Race, winning ahead of Kernel Victor and Mic’s Delight. It was a good showing for Dicky Bob, who has a strong track record at the Cherrybrook point-to-point with victories there in the last two years.

In the day’s fourth race, the AC Worth Confined Hunts Race, one of the horses fancied to win before the race was The Two Amigos, running for the Nicola Martin team. He won the race to claim his fourth win of the season ahead of Heaney and Navanman.

The day’s fifth and sixth races, the Tinhay Building Supplies Restricted Race and the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate, were hotly contested to complete a great day of racing.
