Carlsberg South West peninsula division one East

Tavistock AFC 4

Budleigh Salterton 0

TAVISTOCK made some changes to their starting line up, with Sean Manley taking over as centre back in place of Lewis Daw and Aaron Hulme returning to lead the attack.

The Lambs made a superb start as they opened their account in the fourth minute, when a fine move resulted in Jack Thomas sliding a perfect pass into the path of Carlton Farnham who rounded the advancing keeper and slot the ball into an empty net.

The hosts continued to dominate the game and should have increased their lead in the 12th minute, when a Dave Hallett corner kick was half cleared; the ball fell to Carlton Farnham 12 yards from goal, but he shot wide of the target, when he should have tested the keeper.

A minute later a tremendous move down the left saw Hallett and Farnham inter change passes that opened up the visitors' defence Farnham provided and inch perfect pass for the over lapping Josh Robbins, but his powerful shot whistled just wide of the far post.

Two minutes later Thomas received a short corner kick from Dave Hallett; he beat his defender and provided the perfect cross into the penalty area for Aaron Hulme to power home a fine header, to give the Lambs a 2-0 advantage.

The visitors' first real attack on goal came in the 25th minute but the danger was dealt with by some good defending by Manley. Budleigh were finding it difficult to provide any sustained pressure on the home defence and were limited to the odd counter attack.

In the 41st minute another terrific move involving Robbins, Edwards and Hulme found Farnham but a last ditch clearance by a defender denied him his second goal.

A minute later the hosts got caught by a counter attack, but Pannal shot wide of the target. Then Richardson failed to test Martin Piper in the home goal when he shot well wide of the target.

Just before the interval Farnham made a fine run into the penalty area, squared the ball across the six yard box to find Kelly; his shot was blocked and the ball fell to Hulme, whose shot was also blocked by a defender; the ball came out and fell to Thomas but his shot was cleared off the line for a corner kick.

The second half started with the home team pressing to increase their lead. Farnham and Hulme were continuing to cause the visitors' defence all sorts of problems. Aaron Hulme's led the front line and his pace, strength and power caused the Budleigh defence all sorts of problems throughout the game.

In the 75th minute another fine move by the Lambs involving three players carved open the defence; the ball found Hulme in space, his fine pass found Farnham who cut in from the wing, got to the dead ball line, before pulling the ball back to find Kelvin Fyneboy just inside the penalty area; he picked his spot and blasted the ball home from 15 yards.

The Lambs had a sloppy period mid way through the half, when on a couple of occasions players lost the ball trying to beat too many defenders. They nearly paid the penalty as they got caught short of numbers on the counter attack, but good defending prevented any hope of the visitors reducing the deficit.

The visitors continued to try and impose themselves, but they found the home defence in fine form with Follett and Manley commanding in the middle, with Clark and Robbins having fine games.

In the 85th minute Jarryd Kelly spotted keeper Doble off his goal line, he produced the perfect 35 yard chip, which floated over the keeper's head and into the net to make it four goals to nil.

The Lambs continued to have the lion's share of the play and ran out comfortable victors.

This was a much better performance from Tavistock, and the team is not far short of getting back to the form shown early in the season. It was a good all round team performance, which produced a fine result.
