THE ladies of Okehampton Golf Club continue to excel in the centenary year.
Pam Jarman and Lynda Walker won the County Express & Echo Foursomes competition, held this year at Okehampton, beating 66 other qualifying pairs from around the county. They received the shield from County President Maureen Harris.
On September 11 the Okehampton ladies competed in the Daily Mail Foursomes Competition.
The winners, on countback, were Cherry James and Sue Williams with 35 pts, second were Val Dodsworth and Maureen Howe with 35 pts and third were Jane Warren and Mary Keir. The winning pair go through to the regional finals early next year.
Meanwhile, the Sheelah Creasy team have progressed to the county finals with a convincing win at Axe Cliff against Ilfracombe.
The team consisting of Sue Stanbury, lady captain Jane Warren, Sue Williams, Mary Keir, Michelle Widdows, Maureen Willcocks and Doris Jewell had a 5/2 win with Mary sinking a putt on the 19th hole to secure the victory.
They now play East Devon at Thurlstone next week in the final.
On September 14 an individual medal competition was played. Winner of division one was John Flavin with nett 65.
Nicholas Heath was second with nett 66 on the back nine from, in third, Evan Rees.
Division two was won by Alan Lawson with a terrific gross 77 nett 61. Second place went to William Potts with nett 64 and third with nett 66 was Richard Goodger.
Russell Bowden was the winner of division three with nett 62 closely followed by new young member Peter Howell with nett 63. Third position was taken by Paul Rogers with net 64.
