IN this U13s plate quarter final Tavistock set off for the coast to meet Torquay on a gusty but sunny day.
A solid lively pitch complemented Tavistock's speedsters and kicking abilities.
Three minutes of pressure in Torquay's 22 paid off after the defence closed in allowing Tavistock to spin the ball wide through the backs to Henry Varndell-Dawes to dot down for Tavistock's first.
Strong rucking from Charlie Meakin and Ben McKenzie allowed scrum half Tom Perrse to snipe his first try for Tavistock after 11 minutes.
Tavistock made any Torquay possession difficult to use with some intense pressure from Edward Tait, Tom Scott and Harry Edwards. The second row pairing of James Roisetter and Harry Law created some good going forward across the width of the park and the locks input and work rate earned them joint player of the match.
Harry Richardson for Tavistock sealed the half after a powerful drive through from the number eight to make it 17-0 at half time.
The second half saw Tavistock playing with the swirling wind at their backs and they used the conditions well to pin Torquay back in their own half. Torquay never dropped their heads and made some strong attacks, only to meet a determined wall of tackles and some great clearing kicks for touch. Another patient build up gave Owen Staples the chance to show his pace out wide for Tavistock's fourth, quickly followed by a the offload of the game from James White with a skilful back handed pass out of a tackle to put Henry Varndell-Dawes clear though.
Noah Berridge made the tackle of the season on the big Torquay number 15 as he charged forward from a tap penalty. This epitomised the determination of the Tavistock game this week, with Noah McDermott finishing under the posts after another concerted period of forwards pressure sucking in the defence, leaving gaps for the centre to strike.
Torquay kept battling to the end but were unlucky to meet Tavistock in a strong and bullish mood.
Tavistock now face Cullompton for the semi final.

THE game started quickly with a rip from Saul, but he then ran into touch. Play started again and the ball found its way to Lachs, who passed to Will and then to captain Shortie for the opening try.
Adam for Oke scooped a loose ball to score his first try. A nifty interception by Will was passed on to Toby, who made sure that he got it away from the touchline towards the middle of the pitch.
Crediton were on their way but a tackle into touch halted the run. Adam determinedly fought through the opposition for the second of his three tries.
Will and Shea put in some great tackles while Saul found his way through for two tries.
Crediton seemed to pull themselves together at this point and turned on the attack. Alex put in some good tackles and really did have to work hard for quite some time.
Crediton attacked and kept constant pressure on the home team who had to work hard to keep their positions.
While Callum was often first to the rucks for Oke, Chris rucked well but Crediton started to edge the play towards the half way line. A change of direction saw the ball passed to Jacob, who in turn passed to Chris and then on to Alex to score his one try.
From the restart Crediton made a bid to get out of their half and tried hard but unfortunately for them the ball was dropped over the tryline. Will for Oke threw a wild ball but Shortie's good hands caught it and Flynn put in a long run before being taken into touch.
The final stage of play saw two tries for Saul, one for Adam, one for Will in the corner and another for the quick thinking Ed, who scooped a loose ball and took it neatly over the tryline.
