TAVISTOCK Squash's first and second teams have been in action.
The first team played a home game on November 20 against ADS2.
Tavistock were represented by Clive Marais, Steve Tripp, Stuart Cox, Andy Howell and Will Westlake.
Will Westlake got things off to a great start and proved too powerful for his opponent, taking the match 3-0.
Andy Howell was in a close match with little in the scores, but managed to take the match 3-0.
Stuart Cox playing at number three was in a real battle. He started off well taking the first two games and had a serve to win the match in the third game, but his opponent saved match point. This proved the turning point and Stuart lost 2-3.
Steve Tripp dominated the T with good length and width, and kept him running all over the court. Despite relaxing off in the third game he came back strongly to win his match 3-1.
Man of the match Clive Marais playing at number one had a hard fought match against a good player. He kept his cool and started to take the ball earlier giving his opponent less time and he went on to win 3-1. Clive was awarded man of the match for his performance.
The second team played their third match of the season with a home fixture against Virgin Active 3.
Tavistock were represented by Simon Powell, Luke Wakley, Robin Burdfield, Matt Smith, and Steve Luxton.
Steve Luxton started strongly but as with all the games the standard was fairly close and after going 1-2 down the Tavistock player turned his ankle and effectively that was match over, even though he did play on.
Matt Smith started slowly but came back strongly to take the score level to 1-1. Then despite playing some excellent shots his opponent's simple and straight forward game proved a winning approach in this match.
Robin Burdfield was playing a quick young player who covered the court well and was able to counter all of Robin's experience with a mix of running and some decent squash.
Luke was in a great battle in another close match which could have gone either way but his opponent managed to take the match.
Man of the match Simon Powell had another close game, including a mammoth 21-23 second game, but managed to see the game out 3-1 to avoid the whitewash and was made Tavistock man of the match for his efforts.
