TWO Tavistock Athletic Club runners, Jon and Jo Meek, took part in the Guernsey Island Easter Running Festival with four races over four days.
On Good Friday it was the 10km road race and the next day a 4¾ mile cross country and on the Sunday a competitive 4 x 2 miles team cross country relay – followed on the Easter Monday with a half marathon. Athletes from around UK take up the challenge including female GB International Steph Twell. Jo battled the windy conditions to second in the 10k in 36 minutes 47 seconds and Jon was fourth veteran in the over 40 in 41mins 35secs.
In the challenging cross country course places were lost to experienced local runners but with good results in the 10k both Jon and Jo were able to hang on to their overall positions in their categories.Two fellow South West runners joined them in the 4 x 2 mile cross country relay.
With 38 teams it was an exciting relay to watch, now as part of Team South West Jo ran the first leg in an impressive 11'53 to set the Team on its way to seventh overall and first mixed team.
Jo was second female and Jon fourth Vet 40 overall after three races.
On the Easter Monday in the half marathonJo was third female in 1hr 23 mins 17secs to achieve a splendid second overall.
Jon was eighth om V40 in 1hr 36mins 56secs and finished fourth overall in the V40.
