TAVISTOCK Golf Club ended their county season matches in great style.
In the ladies' County Still Cup the scratch team of Gilly Jarvis, Kayleigh Cann, Dawn Phillott, Jayne Wright, Belinda McSherry, Bev Ruth, Nicky Gawman and Hilary Picton had an excellent win when they beat Thurleston in the final at Honiton 4-2 with one match unfinished on the course.
The Still Cup was presented to the club in 1903 by Mr Still and was won by the club in that year. It has become the most prestigious ladies' scratch event in Devon. A delighted lady captain Bridget Luckham said 'What a great day! We last won the cup in 1977 and now the Still Cup has come back home again!'
The men's scratch team of Alan Gawman, Chris Gawman, Adam Bridgewater, David Turnbull, Jack Phillpotts and Nick Mier defeated Dainton Park in the final of the Parker Trophy at Bovey Castle.
After losing the morning foursomes 2-1, the team responded magnificently in the afternoon winning four of the six singles matches. Thirty five Devon clubs contested the Parker Trophy — a great win for the club.
Captain John Harding said: 'These two great wins confirms that Tavistock Golf Club has the best group of scratch players in Devon - a real feather in our cap!'
Another great result for the club was in the DCLVGA Killard Leavy Trophy held at Honiton. Shirley Trevena and Pat Wiley came in with the excellent score of 37 points to win the trophy. The competition was inaugurated in 1973 and has never been won by Tavistock. Another winning result in Tavistock's outstanding summer of success.
