TAVISTOCK athletes competed for the counties of Cornwall and Devon in the competitive South West inter counties Cross Country Championships which was held at Bicton College in East Devon.
In the U13 girls’ race Tilly McDowell was 13th overall and third Cornish girl over the line to receive a county team silver for her efforts. Natasha Farrington, running for Devon came in 12th overall in the U15s’ girls’ category. She was the fourth Devon girl in and also received a team silver medal.
The U20 and senior women ran together with U20 Tess Masselink coming in second overall and first Cornish woman back. She received an individual silver medal and was part of the Cornish senior and U20 combined gold medal winning team. Alice Rogers, who came in fourth overall, was also part of the gold winning county team.
Caroline Steven (female 45) came in 25th and won an individual bronze medal in her age category. Jenny Sabine, running for Devon was tenth U20 home.
Team Devon won the U20 womens’ gold medal. Sam Lake (F35) was 16th lady home, sixth in her category and earned county bronze, running for Devon. An added bonus was that Tavistock won the silver medal for the second club team home in the combined race.
U20 men and senior men also ran in the same race, with Will Dax coming in ninth in the U20 category and winning a county gold medal as the fourth Devon runner to finish.
Allan Herdman, Richard Best and Matthew Mercer were the Tavistock senior representatives, with Allan winning gold in the veteran 60 category.
Eight year-old Joel Lake was the sole representative in the U11 boys’ fun run and came in a creditable 17th out of 35 runners, most of whom were older than him.
