TAVISTOCK Cricket Coub's annual president's day match was a tribute to Mike Crocker, who died recently.

Crock had been involved with the club for nearly 40 years and occupied most positions during that time, finally running the bar for the last 15 years.

Club captain Shaun Daymond won the toss and put Stuart Munday's president's XI in to bat.  Openers Jake Luffman and Mark Horwell put on a quick fire 70 with Horwell eventually out for 89.

Dave Watson had a cameo knock of 18 informing the captain it was all because he had lost weight — from 20 stone to 19 1/2.

Also taking part were Crock's son Marty and grandson Louie. They finished on 194 for seven.

The best of the home bowlers were Shaun Daymond and David Manning. The Tavistock side were always chasing, but an excellent knock from Aaron Churchill of 63 kept them in the hunt.

Daymond hit a quick fire 24 and the result looked to be over, but with bowling being spread around and a last wicket stand of 49 by Richard Elderman 35 and David Milligan 16 the club won with one over to spare.

It was a brilliant day's cricket and a result which saw the president's team lose for the first time in ten years — this would have delighted Crock as his allegiance was always on the side of the club.

During the tea interval the bar was renamed in Crock's memory as 'Crock's Tavern' and a plaque was unveiled by Jenny, Marty and Paula.
