IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Bridestowe won at home 6-4 against Okehampton C in a hard fought match.
There was a fine maximum from Bridestowe’s Mark Tancock; Phil Down and Francis Griffiths won one singles each. Emily Haskill played well to win two for Okehampton C, Josh Parsons and Cameron Brooking won one each while the home side won the doubles.
In Milton Abbot A at home to league leaders Tavistock it was the visitors who struck first when Roger Bowkett beat Michael Blatchford and Peter Hicks beat Ian Osbourne. Alex Lewen saved the whitewash in his victory against Mark Bennett. Roger and Peter both achieved maximum wins and won the the doubles against Ian and Alex for a 9-1 victory to the visitors.
Milton Abbot A were away to Bridestowe, who raced into a 3-0 lead before Alex Lewen beat Francis Griffiths in four sets. Mark Tancock and Mark Fogerty both scored maximums and went on to win the doubles against Michael and Alex for a 9-1win for Bridestowe.
Okehampton B were home to Bridestowe, who could only field two players. Mark Tancock and Francis Griffiths won the first two against Karen Stephenson and John Squire. Mark won the next against John while Steve Tyler did well to beat Mark and Francis Griffiths. In the last singles Karen just lost out in five legs against Francis. Mark and Francis won the doubles against Karen and Steve to earn a 5-5 draw.
North Wkye played Horrabridge A where John Stewart won the first against Enrique Cancer-Barra to put the visitors 1-0 ahead. Tom Misselbrook beat Brendon Seaward and Bob Newcombe won the next for Horrabridge A against Jill Whiteley. John won the next against Tom to lead 3-1. North Wyke won the next three before John completed his maximum with a win against Jill to level at 4-4. Enrique won the last singles against Brendon and joined Tom to win the doubles for a 6-4 win to North Wyke.
In an hard fought match between the Okehampton A and B sides Nick Jackson for Oke B won the first against John Squire.
Karen Stephenson levelled against Roni Gallardo-Bustos while Steve Madge put Oke A 2-1 up before Nick beat Karen to level. Nick went on to score a maximum while John beat Roni in the last singles for 5-4. The B side won the doubles as the match ended 5-5.
In division two the young team Okehampton E were home to Horrabridge B. Horrabridge went ahead when Andrew Frazer beat Aiden Frew-Smith; Eli Holt won the next against David Stewart to level. Connor Madge did well to beat Jill Northey and Eli beat Andrew to put Oke E 3-1 up. Jill won the next against Aiden and Connor beat David. Horrabridge B won the next three singles to go 5-4 ahead but a win by Eli and Connor in the doubles against Jill and David saw the match end 5-5.
Club rivals Anchorage A against Anchorage B Dave Wilson gave B the lead against Malcolm Hopkins. Colin Brooker beat Roger Gilbert to level. Colin Jones beat against Jenny Gilbert and Roger beat Malcolm to make it 2-2.
The A side stepped up a gear winning the next five singles and the doubles for a 8-2 win for Anchorage A in a very competitive match.
Also in division two Milton Abbot B were home to Gunnislake. Tom Doidge won the first against Mike Kinger then Jack Flockton beat George Anderson to level. Ang Harod-Beman beat Micheal Alexander for 2-1; George lost to Mike Kinger, Tom beat Michael and Ang beat Jack to lead 4-2. Ang went on to score a maximum against Mike; Jack won the last singles against Tom and Ang and Tom won the doubles for 6-4 win for Milton Abbot B.
Milton Abbot played Anchorage B. Dave Wilson beat Tom Doidge, Roger Gilbert beat George Anderson for 2-0 to Anchorage B.
Wilson went on to a fine maximum while Ang and Tom won two for Milton Abbot, Dave and Roger for Anchorage B beating Ang and Tom as Milton Abbot B won the match 6-4.
Okehampton E were at home to Moretonhampstead, who could only field two players.
Eli Holt lost to Ken Underhill, Aiden Frew-Smith beat Richard Underhill to level. Ken beat Aiden but Connor Madge him all the way in the next just winning in the third leg. Richard won his last two singles and joined Ken in the doubles beating Aiden and Connor for a 6-4 win for the Moretonhampstead side.
