Carlsberg South West peninsula premier

Tavistock AFC 2

Elburton Villa 1

A GOOD size crowd on Friday evening witnessed a good game, with both teams playing open attractive football throughout.

It was 90 minutes of attacking action as both teams set out to gain victory.

Andy Meeds in the home goal was called into action in the sixth minute when he made a fine save to deny Levi Landricombe from scoring. Almost immediately Ben Davis produced a great pass that found Glyn Hobbs, on the left flank, he held off challenges from two defenders, before cutting inside and along the dead ball line, turning inside Lewis Daw before slotting the ball past goal keeper Simon May to open the scoring.

The game continued to flow from end to end with both sides creating chances but it was Levi Landricombe and Sam Stevens that missed that best opportunities, allowing the Lambs to go in with a slender 1-0 lead at the interval.

The visitors really increased the tempo of their game, and again Landricombe and Stevens threatened the home goal. Landicombe sent Jack Alexander through and he rounded Meeds but was forced wide of the goal and the chance was wasted.

After a blistering 15 minutes from the visitors, the home team began to get back into the game, as Hobbs shot narrowly wide with May well beaten.

It was Hobbs who scored the Lambs second goal of the evening with a terrific shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the net.

But back came Elburton again and Levi Landricombe hit the cross bar with a tremendous shot before, brother Michael hit a ferocious shot from 15 yards past Meeds to reduce the deficit. Then in the third minute of stoppage time Levi Landricombe was again denied by the woodwork.

The Lambs hung on to secure all three points, to take them one place above the visitors in the league table.

This game was certainly was a great advert for the high standard of play in the South West Peninsula League.

There were a number of outstanding performances with Glyn Hobbs always threatening the visitor's goal, scoring two sublime goals.

Captain Jamie Ahearn led by example and was outstanding in defence, while Andy Meeds again turned in a really fine performance.
