MEMBERS of Tavistock Athletic Club put in a substantial entry for the Duckponds 7k multi-terrain race, hosted by Plymstock Road Runners in Plymouth.
Peter Bazley was first TAC home, finishing in 31st place overall, and winning his age category in 30 minutes, 7 seconds. Andy and Sheila Houghton finished second in their categories in times of 33.28 and 38.59 respectively.
Rhian Johnson made a very welcome return to racing running strongly to finish third in age in 43.34. Tony Shearer (34.37) and Jackie Ralph (43.34) finished fourth in their categories, while Caron De Val (40.29) and Ann Woodhouse (47.24) came fifth in theirs. Lesley Cowie finished in 40.59, giving her sixth position in her age, while Graham De Val (33.40) was third club member to finish, ninth in his MV50+ age group.
A few days previously, five TACs competed in the penultimate race of the Saltram 5k summer series. Sam Lane De Courtin excelled, finishing in fifth overall in 18.34 and recording the second fastest club time for this tough race. Tony Shearer gained silver for his age/time of 24.18. Paul Waldron completed his first race for the club, finishing 29th in an excellent time of 21.54. Close behind was a very promising Under-13 athlete, Jasmine Gray, producing her season's best to finish in 22.16 and Caron De Val ran another consistent time in 28.33.
Two club runners competed in the hilly Magnificent Seven in Saltash and also the off-road Fingle Dash near Castle Drogo — all four excelled.
At Saltash, Jo Meek finished first in her age category and third lady home in 47.17, while Rebecca Mingo came third in age in 51.07. At Fingle Bridge, James Crisp came second in 1hour 1minute, while Peter Bazley was tenth in 1.12.
