THERE was great success for two young teens from the Jujitsu Tavistock Club who went all out in front of a grading panel headed by Umberto Bergonzini sensei, fifth degree black belt.
The standard proved to be exceptionally high once again and the grading panel was extremely pleased by the performance and character demonstrated by Dillon Hemming and Joe Morel who were promoted to third kyu, brown belt.
The two youngsters, aged 13 and 14, started jujitsu when they were only seven and eight years-old. Since then they have trained hard, they have shown dedication and humility and because of all that they have always passed their grading examinations with flying colours.
Dillon said: ‘I’ve been doing jujitsu in Tavistock since I was seven and I’ve worked my way up through six belts and grading examinations.
‘I was quite nervous when I joined but the classes are really fun and you meet new friends. Jujitsu is good for all round fitness and helps my stamina in football and having to remember complicated moves is really good for memory and concentration too. ‘
Joe said: ‘I am really pleased to have got my brown belt and am determined to keep going all the way and eventually get that black belt – it will be a real achievement for me.’
