Tamar and Tavy Gig Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the mixed and veterans championships hosted by Caradon Gig Club in Saltash.

Despite the weather with strong winds making the conditions challenging, spirits were high and the crews were determined to succeed.

On the Saturday the mixed team formed of Heidi Brodribb, Tim Brodribb, Mark Turner, Dan High, Sarah Gall and Charity Philips came third out of four in their heat to qualify for a place in quarter finals thanks to some strong rowing and great coxing by Katie Turner. In a tough quarter final heat they narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals, but finished within the top half of the crews.

The mixed super veteran crew of Penny Twine, Christine Roberts, Karen Auborn, David Auborn, Ian King and Simon Howes and coxed by Becky Masters qualified for the plate final, coming home in a superb fourth.

Bill Stacey-Norris coxed a strong and determined iuniors team, who rowed well to fifth place in their finals.

On Sunday in even tougher weather conditions the Tamar and Tavy ladies super veterans of Carolyn Dawe, Julie Rendle, Lynn Renton, Mel Cotton, Julie Eastaugh and Helen Samson-Hill, coxed by Rob Dawe, rowed to second place in the heat to qualify for the final where they finished in a superb fourth place.
