A full house and all six courts were in action at Tavistock Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon for the first of the club’s themed informal tournaments, coinciding with the four Grand Slam events in the professional tennis calendar.

It was led by the club’s professional coach, Rhys Dunford.  Similar to the new Laver Cup format promoted by Roger Federer, players were divided into two teams, in this case Team Kyrgios and Team Hewitt.  Team Hewitt triumphed by six points;  however, the real winner was the new format which encouraged a large turnout of all standards and all ages, competing both with and against each other.

Once the tennis was over competitors enjoyed a barbecue prepared by Bill and Claudine Sparks. leading to the final event of the day, a competitive didgeridoo-off, the results of which were indeterminate.
