THIRTY six players competed over the summer months for the right to be in the final of the Frank Humphrey Memorial Trophy at Yelverton Golf Club.
Numerous rounds of single matchplay format saw a final between John Soutar and David Kelly pit their skills to secure this veteran’s trophy.
It was an even match which was only decided on the putting skills of John to secure a 3 and 2 win. This secured John’s third win of this trophy, a feat only surpassed by one other.
There were 33 competitors this week for the Mid-Week Stableford at Yelverton Golf Club. Phil Pond, this year’s winner of the Lumby Cup, took first place with an excellent score of 39 points.

The veteran’s Mid-Week Stableford this week saw 34 competitors play a best of two scores from three format.
Results: 1, Andy Young, Terry Maber, Peter O’Neill and Len Waterfield 76pts; 2, Kevin Vince, Philip Baker and Bob Carwithen 75pts; 3, Christian Prosper, Alan Malton and Mike Martin 75pts.
Yelverton Golf club members were this week working with the community to help maintain the natural condition of some of the Dartmoor landscape.
Dartmoor Preservation Association and Yelverton Golf Club members were working hard to clear some of Roborough Down’s leats, helping to restore them to their original condition. Garry Foster, Yelverton course manager, said: ‘In clearing the leats near the golf course the health of the course is improved by the free flow of air.’
The Dartmoor Preservation Association ‘Friends of Dartmoor’ do fabulous conservation work on Dartmoor and were well represented for this the first joint venture between the DPA and Yelverton Golf Club. There are a further three sessions planned, the next being November 16.
