THE outgoing captain of Yelverton Golf Club ladies’ section crowned her parting with the presentation of a bumper donation £1,223.29 to the Guide Dogs for the Blind, a charity the ladies section has supported during her year of office.

Mair Preston-Jones now hands over the reins to Sue Gullick for the 2019 season.

The mid-week Stableford attracted 34 players this week. Results: 1, Andrew Hill 38 points; 2, Grant Wills 37pts; 3, Neil Hollaway 35pts. There were two two’s scored by Steve Trott and Steve Seward.

This week’s best two scores from three veteran’s Stableford competition attracted 47 competitors.

It was a close competition with the winners being decided on countback only. Results: 1, John Goad, John Pascoe and Andy Young 79pts; 2, Jack Bovingdon, S Sud and Andy Thompson 79pts; 2, Peter Adams, Mike Bates and Paul Harvey 77pts. There were two two’s scored by Bob Carwithen and Nick Ring.

Taking advantage of the early spring sunny weather, the club’s junior players turned up in force to take part in the latest Golf Access event. Young Tia Kowalski led the way for the ladies with an unbeatable stroke score of 35 gross over the nine-hole short course, while George Saxby followed close behind with 37 and Nathan Keers with a 38.

This changed the standings at the top of order of merit with Fraser Smithson still holding on to first position while George Saxby edged to second and Tia Kowalski leaped to third place.

Golf Access awards given were: Nathan Keers, emerald; Greg Frost, violet, Tia Kowalski, scarlet; Jake Blundy – amber, Lucas Jowett – aqua, George Saxby – scarlet, Jenson Setterfield – Amber, Roman Setterfield, amber. Well done to the juniors who took part.
