FOR the third year running Tavistock Golf Club retained the Parker Trophy contested by more than 30 clubs in Devon.
The men’s scratch team of Will Stenhouse, Graham Ruth, Alan Gawman, Dave Turnbull, Chris Gawman, Jack Phillpotts, Adam Bridgewater and Kenny Mackenzie defeated a strong Royal North Devon team in the final at Holsworthy by six and a half to two and a half.
Another great win was achieved by Ed Smith and Sam Lawrence in Devon County’s adult and junior foursomes played at Libbaton. Ed and Sam scored 38 points to win the Graham Ruth Trophy to make it two great county wins for the club.
Postponed from August because of rain the 125 Mixed Team Open was played in warm sunshine on a course that was in superb condition.
With the excellent score of 82 pts the Tavistock team of Alan Gawman, Bev Ruth, Will Stenhouse and Lynn Swift took the honours. From Bude and North Cornwall Kay Dinsdale, Mark Taylor, John and Shirley Percy were second with 77 pts.
The Tavistock team of Ken and Sybil Coles, Keith and Marion Stenhouse were third with 75pts.
Tavistock’s Simon Bridgewater and Mike Coles were nearest the pin on the 14th and 10th respectively; the ladies’ nearest the pin on the fourth, Elaine Bright of East Devon; on the 14th, Fran Horton, Tavistock.
In the Green Keepers Trophy the winner was Keith Maskell with 48pts, second was Danny Brockington on 44pts and with in third place Neil Tamblin on 43pts on count back from Kevin Quick.
A total of 114 players competed in the Basil Steer Trophy which was won by Matt Hurrell with a net 67; runner up was Will Caulfield with net 69 on count back from Jack Phillpotts.
