THIRTY teams entered the Tavistock Golf Club lady veterans’ three ball better ball open – always a popular event. 

There was good scoring even though the weather could have been kinder. The Tavistock team of Elaine Cooper, Nikke Ormond and Ann Short were first with 77 points on count back from Stover’s Linda Clake, Elizabeth Handsford and Jill Little; in third place with 75pts were Jean Pearce, Sandra O’Connor and Roz Clarke from Bude/North Cornwall.

The Sparkwell/Boringdon team of Julie Bacon, Pat Collins and Pat Forsbury were the best visitor team not in the prizes with 72pts. 

The best Tavistock team not in the prizes were Maggie Hillman, Lynn Swift and Bridget Luckham with 71pts.  Best front nine, Jean Jolly, Janice Norris and Iris Butler, Lyme Regis/Churston; best back nine, Wendy Collins. Irene Bessell and Vida Appleton Launceston/Okehampton; nearest the pin on the fourth, Penny Hardwick, Burnham; nearest the pin on the 10th, Julia Cole, Tiverton 

In the men’s four ball better ball open the Tavistock team of Mike Sutcliffe and Mark Taylor took the honours with 45 points on countback from China Fleet’s A Braddon and David Pothecary.

Tavistock also took third place with Andy Down and Rob Staniford scoring 44pts on countback from Peter Floyd and Jim Behennah. 

In the men’s Artisan Bowl John Harding had a nett 73 to win the bowl followed by Dave Treble, nett 76 on count back from David Young and Rob Lovall.

In the ladies’ monthly Stableford in division one Gail Reed took first place with 36pts on countback from Dawn Dennis; Sarah Woock was third with 35pts. In division two first was Jill Millicham on 35pts on count back from Janet Kiely; third Margaret Smith with 30 pts. 

Top of division three with an excellent 40pts was Sue Bailey, second Helen Heywood 36 pts and third Jackie Seeley with 26 pts.

Tavistock veterans had excellent wins in the Emerton Court competition beating Teign Valley home and away with the overall score 7-3.  They now play Stover in the next round.
