THROUGHOUT January the weather has proved to be a testing time for golfers at Tavistock Golf Club.  The month started with the annual New Year’s Day Mixed Stableford being cancelled but,  despite the weather,  the winter league organised by club professional Glenn Richards has now played four rounds.

In the fourth round  the partnership of Nigel Roberts and Lewis Reid scored 42 points to top division one; first in division two were Gerry Bawden and Maurice Craze with 44pts and Dan Harris and Alan Doidge with 41pts topped division three.

The ladies had a ‘Fun Day’ – a cross country Stableford played over nine holes in teams of three.  After playing the first hole the ‘fun’ started! Criss-crossing the 18 holes and working out where to go certainly provided some lively discussions as the ladies wandered over the course.  But it was a great ’fun day’.

The ladies also played two non-qualifying Stablefords, organised by Glenn Richards.

The men did play their monthly medal and Stableford compet-itions.  In the medal Dan Harris had a nett 68 to top division one; second was Adam Bridgewater on nett 69 on count back from Mark Taylor.

First in division two was junior Callum Watkin, who started his season well with a nett 72; second was Alan Greening nett 73 and third Dan Cooper with nett 74 on count back from Steve Andrews. Jas Singh was first in division three with nett 70; second Mark Claridge, nett 71 and third Peter Anglis, nett 75.

The players in the men’s Stableford enjoyed sunny but cold weather.  Mike Apps scored 41 pts to take first place in division one; second, Dave Burge on 41pts and third John Hirst 39pts on count back from Jim Whitbread.

Chris Morley was first in division two with 42pts; second Ajay Patel on 37pts, on count back from Marc Ninnis.

Junior Jamie Ninnis also had a good start to his season with 41pts to win first place in division three; second was Chris Laight on 40pts and in third place Alan Doidge, 38pts.
