YELVERTON Golf Club veterans played their mid-week Stableford this week in glorious sunshine and perfect conditions.
Forty seven golfers delighted the course with some high scoring golf and no less than seven players achieved twos. The format was the best two scores from three playing off white to blue tees in rotation. Results: 1, Jack Bovingdon, Christian Prosper and Graham Plumb 96pts; 2, Ken Grant, Chris Willis and David Hanley 93pts; 3, Len Waterfield, Neil Sellick and Mike Ayres 93pts. Twos were scored by Jack Bovingdon, Andy Hill, Alan Malton, Chris Pearn, Noel Preston-Jones, Neil Sellick and Chris Willis.
The glorious weather conditions continued for the mid-week Stableford at Yelverton. A mixed event attracted thirty six golfers who took full advantage of the great golfing conditions. Matthew Bodily took first place romping home with an unbeatable score of 44 points. Results: 1, Matthew Bodily 44pts; 2, Kevin Blaber 40pts; 3, Kozi Hart 40pts. Twos: Lee Hocking, Dominic Hussell, John Lucas, Kozi Hart, Michael Ayres and Steven Trott.
Sue Gullick performed the ritual ladies’ Captain Drive-In this week with 32 hardy ladies and a few male members including manager Colin Nolan in attendance. The drive-in is an official start to the practical side of the game performed by the current ladies’ captain. The weather took a down turn but the ladies spirits were not to be dampened as they completed their 13-hole stableford competition, which was won by Sue Rumbold with an excellent score of 27 points.
The ‘Pounders’ were in action this week attracting 33 golfers who took advantage of some great weather to stage an early stableford competition. Leslie Harries took the top spot with a great score of 43 points. Results: 1, Leslie Harries 43pts; 2, Frank Thomas 40pts; 3, Alexander Kirkcaldy 38pts. Twos: Alexander Kirkcaldy, Ray Bennett, Peter Vallis & Chris Allen.
Dan Rosevear said goodbye to Yelverton Golf Club after over a decade at the club as either a playing junior or on the greens staff. Moving to America to further his green keeping career, Dan has made golf his life. A competent plus handicap player Dan has represented Devon at all levels winning many honours for both club and county. He will now continue to gain experience at the Jack Nicklaus Muirfield Village Golf Club Ohio. The club thanked Dan and wished him well.
