CHRISTMAS cannot be too far away when Tavistock Golf Club start their Bottle and Poultry competitions.  First off were the ladies when they played their Bottle Trot three ball better ball Stableford in very summery weather!

November is the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month and is also  lady captain Gail Reed’s charity of the year.  To show their support for the charity all the ladies wore purple pansy garlands.  The garlands,  knitted by many ladies in the Tavistock area, will also be displayed by many shops and businesses.

‘I have had personal experience of this dreadful disease and the effect it has on families’, said Gail,  ‘and I strongly support this charity in helping to raise awareness and earlier diagnosis of this little known but deadly disease. It was great to see the ladies proudly wearing their garlands out on the course.’

Winners of the three ball better ball Bottle Trot — first Val Jarman, Jenny Kay and Marian Stenhouse  with 85 pts, second Liz Loosmore, Belinda McSherry and Hilary Picton 83pts, third Sue Bailey, Lesley Moore and Norma Thewlis 82pts.

In the men’s qualifying round of Daily Mail Foursomes the winning pair were Alan Doidge and Rob Jarman net 66, runners up Jerry Bawden and Dennis Walker with net 68.  The winning pair will represent Tavistock in the next qualifying round in the new year.

The veterans’ sections played for the Trevena/Congo Cup, now in its second year.  Playing greensomes and with drawn partners the first names to be engraved on the cup will be Val White and Bill Tynan with an excellent 44pts.
