THE weather was kind to the 44 teams that took part in Tavistock Golf Club’s men’s three ball better ball Medal Open.
The scoring was close but the Tavistock team of Alan Gawman, Mike Sutcliffe and Philip Riley won the day with a nett 130. Second, with a nett 131, was Tavistock’s Jim Grant, Rob Jarman and Alan Doidge. The China Fleet team of John Callaghan, Dave Callaghan and Christopher Davis took third place with a nett 132.
In the St George’s Greensomes, first with 40 points Colin Nolan and Graham Ruth; second George and Nicky Gawman with 38pts on count back from Jason Allen and Patrick McMahon.
Mother and daughter competed in the Harvey Frost Trophy – Alicia Newland and partner Nigel Roberts took first place with 41pts second was Alicia’s mother Joan Newland and Alan Doidge with 38pts on count back from Tom Dodd and Sue Stewart.
The lady veterans played for their first two trophies of the season . The ‘Down the Hole’ trophy for players with a 34 plus handicap was won by Jean Thomas with 29pts. Also played in conjunction with the trophy was a 3BBB won by Liz Loosemore, Jean Thomas and Val Facey with 70pts.
In the Knowle Shield June Kendall and Liz Hough took first place with 37pts; runners up were Jill Hill and Margaret Burn with 30pts on countback from Liz Loosmore and Val Facey.
In the monthly medal, played in conjunction with the Rickard Bowl, 27 ladies braved a cold strong wind. First in division one was Donna Cann with a nett 77 on countback from Nicky Gawman and third Fran Horton with nett 79. Anne Williams was first in division two with a nett 77 on countback from Jean Thomas and Hazel Cash.
The winner of the rrophy after countbacks was Anne Williams.
