Yelverton Golf Club placed hosts Wrangaton on June 8 in a Plymouth Area League match between the respective second and top placed clubs.
Both sides fielded strong teams and the standard of golf was not disappointing. Five matches each played a four ball better ball match play format. The first Yelverton team M Cooper and P Miller contested a tight match against M Handley and P Blackler to win 3-2.
R Acres and C O’Sullivan beat C Harper and C Hill 2-1; M Harrington and D halved with M Skrivener and L Mundell, while D Mallafre and B. Richardson lost 2-3 to J Cowardine and J Axten.
So it was up to the last pairing to decide the match which went all the way to the 18th green. Dave Hyslop (Yelverton) played a fine shot to put pressure on the Wrangaton pairing to get up and down. Hyslop made a two putt, which sealed the game and subsequently the match for Yelverton by three and half points to one and a half.
It meant Yelverton leapfrogging Wrangaton in the PAL table placing.
