SEVEN-year old Mason Seward and Isaac Thomas, aged 11 years, took first place in the Yelverton Golf Club junior short course summer eclectic with a final score of 28.

These two promising juniors held off strong competition from a junior section which shows a bright future under the tutorage of head professional Adam Frayne.

Yelverton’s Winter Stableford was held this week and attracted 96 competitors and produced some high scoring rounds. With challenging conditions 12 players managed to equal or better the competition scratch score.

Division four: 1, J Goodman 42pts; 2, J Hargreaves 33pts; 3, P Clapp 33pts. There were seven two’s scored: P Hendy, IP Verner, P Cunningham, K Bowen, AT Price, P Vallis, G Brain and H Jenkins.

The South West Winter Foursomes has reached its quarter final stage. In order to qualify for the knockout rounds teams compete for the best medal scores with 16 highest scoring teams going through to the first round of matchplay knockout. Teignmouth, Tavistock and Yelverton Golf Clubs are those left at the quarter finals stage with the current champions, Ian Scott and John Soutar still in the running. This week the Mid-Week Stableford was played on true, lush greens but wintery conditions. Scoring was difficult with the competition scratch score being lowered to 34. It was, however, Steve Seward who managed to tame the elements and this was reflected in his score. Result: 1, Steve Seward 37pts; 2, Jim Stein 34pts; George Graham 32pts.
