THE recent bad weather has played havoc with Tavistock Golf Club’s fixtures but the sun shone for the Ladies’ Delaney Texas Scramble Open.

Always a popular event, this year was no exception with 37 teams taking part. First with a nett score of 63.2 were Yelverton’s Gilly Jarvis, Gina Mason and Ann Pritchard on countback from Torquay’s Keeley Clarke, Sally Spokes and Fiona Parsons. Tavistock’s Jackie Sealey, Myra Sussex,

and Pat Taylor took third place with nett 65.6 on countback from Penny Deakin, Sue Stanbury and Pam Turner (Okehampton and Canmoor, Scotland). In fifth place, with a nett 66.6, were Maggie Hillman, Dawn Phillott and Hilary Picton (Tavistock).  Ann Carter, Mandy Furniss and Gerri Whitrow (Sidmouth) were sixth with a nett 67 on countback from Wendy George, Cheryl Hall and Helen Heywood Tavistock). With nett 67.4 Nicky Gawman, Belinda McSherry and Bev Ruth (Tavistock) took eighth place.  Nearest on the pin on the fourth, Gina Mason (Yelverton); nearest the pin on the 10th, Melanie Goldman (Torrington).

The Ladies’ Challenge Bowl is  a 36-hole medal played over two consecutive days. First in division one and winner of the bowl was Fiona Lovell with a nett 147 (-1), second was Nicky Gawman nett 150, third Bev Ruth nett 153. 

First in division two was Alicia Newland with nett 150, second Sue Eastwood nett 150 and third Joan Newland nett 151.

Sixty four players took part in the men’s N Chinn Stableford. First in division one was Martyn Moon with 43 points, second Adam Bridgewater 42pts and third Mark Taylor with 40pts. Rob Score was first in division two with 36pts, second Lewis Reid 35pts, third John Thewlis 34pts on countback from Mike King. In division three Barry Tillyer scored 42pts, Tom Kelly 37pts and third was Nick Notley 35pts.

In the men’s monthly medal Geoff Blainer had a nett 68 to top the first division while second was Adam Bridgewater nett 69 on countback from Mark Taylor. With a nett 64 Martin Hoar was first in division two, second Alan Doidge nett 67 and third Keith Stenhouse nett 68. Winners of the Lady Veterans Truscott Pittman Salver were June Kendall and Sara Hanson with 37pts; runners up were Sue Gawman and Myra Sussex with 36pts on countback from Julie Harding and Joy Tynan.  The format for this year’s lady veterans competition ‘A Row of Houses’ was very different. Playing the first as if it’s the 18th, the second as if it is the 17th etc – there was confusion but great fun!  Dawn Dennis was the winner with 36pts on count back from Nikki Ormond.
