ON Saturday at Okehampton Golf Club an individual Stableford competition was played and the winner of division one, with a creditable 45 points, was Jay Carroll. In second, with 39pts, was Martin O’Connor after count back from, in third, Del Owen also on 39pts.
Richard Heslop and Alan Grimshaw had the top two scores in division two both attaining 40pts but Richard had the best back nine therefore taking first place. Ray Stevens was third with 39 pts. Division three was won by Simon James with 43pts, Pete Grant was second with 40pts and Andrew Sinclair was third with 36pts.
The ladies’ section engaged in their first individual medal competition of the year and the winner of the silver section was Francis Harbron with nett 69. Marcia Jones was second with nett 74 and Sue Stanbury was third also with a nett 74.
Mary Keir took first place in the bronze division with nett 73 after countback putting Maggie Caws in second also with nett 73, Jane Warren was third with nett 74.
The latest seniors’ competition was a better ball. Despite the challenge of the rain, sleet, snow, sunshine and gusty winds it was enjoyable and won by the evergreen Den Adams and Tony Phillips with a creditable 40 pts. Graham Hows and John Leonard were second on the back six with the same score.
