AT the recent Devon County Ladies’ Golf annual meeting held at Exeter Golf Club, Christine Longden of Yelverton Golf Club took over as Devon County ladies’ captain.

Christine has been an active member of Yelverton ladies since joining the club in 1997.  A keen player, she has made herself available for most of the ladies’ inter-county club matches and has been a cheerful, encouraging presence throughout.

Over the years she has served on the ladies’ committee undertaking various roles such as competition secretary, handicap secretary and ladies’ secretary. Christine became ladies’ captain in 2006 and discharged her role with style.

Over the last year as county vice captain she has organised the matches of the DCL second team, being responsible for the smooth running of its matches, team selection and coaching sessions.

This year as county captain Christine will work with the county team coach Tiffany MacKenzie and county team manager Sally Charnock to run the matches of the county first team. She will also officiate at the numerous county matches and events that the DCLGA organise throughout the county.

Christine is also a qualified referee’s assistant, having gained an England Golf refereeing certificate. She has been busy on that front refereeing many DCLGA inter-club matches over the years.
