YELVERTON Golf Club’s Caitlin Evans-Brand competed last week in the ‘Home Internationals’ at Ballybunnion Golf Club, Ireland.
These internationals have been running since 1895 with 107 competitive years. Caitlin’s singles’ debut for Wales was against Scotland and previous Scottish and English Amateur champion Gemma Batty.
Caitlin spent most of the match two down to the Scottish player but dug in over the back nine and managed to pull off a memorable first win by 2 up.
Day two matched Wales against Ireland. The morning fixtures were the foursome matches and Caitlin’s team debuted in a closely fought contest in which Ireland narrowly won. In the afternoon Caitlin was matched in the singles against Curtis Cup reserve Mairead Martin.
With five holes to play Caitlin was four down but fought back to halve the match. On the last day Caitlin was rested for the singles but played a part in the morning foursomes.
Her partner was Lucy Jones and they were against an English pairing which included Women’s British Open competitor Hollie Muse. The Welsh pairing got off to a great start and were one up early on but by the turn it was a different story and the final result was a four and three win for the English pair. A great Home International and Welsh ladies debut for Caitlin with a singles record without blemish.
