IN the first Tavistock ladies open of the season 35 teams took part in the four ball better ball team event.
First with an excellent score of 88 points was the home team of June Kendall, Marion Stenhouse, Myra Sussex and Norma Thewlis; second with 86pts were Wendy George, Cheryl Hall, (Tavistock) and Sue Newton and T A Holt while in third, the Libbaton team of Meg Whittaker, Bee Baker and Sara Tunstall with 86pts.
Nearest the pin on the seventh, Mary Marsham from Royal North Devon; nearest the pin in two on the 14th, Sarah Tunstal Libbaton; longest drive, Donna Cann, Tavistock.
Sixty eight players took to the course at Tavistock for the Alpha Romeo Medal. Scoring was close in both divisions. Patrick McMahon topped division one with a nett 66 on count back from Will Caulfield, third Dave Burge nett 67 and fourth with a nett 68, Mark Taylor.
In division two, first Andy Avens nett 70 on countback from Maurice Craze, third Steve Andrews nett 72 and fourth Des Easterbrook, nett 73.
In the Emerton Court Tavistock men veterans had a good home 4-1 win against Wrangaton to win overall 6-4. In the veterans Dave Johns Bowl, Peter Leverton with 40pts was first in division one and winner of the Bowl; second, Rick Harrison 39pts on countback from Dave Burge. First in division two was David Orriss on 38pts, second Paul Whitby 37pts on count back from Richard Wraith and Colin Rogers.
The lady veterans played for the Truscott Salver – a medal competition over 14 holes. The winner with a great score of nett 55 was Jean Thomas closely followed by runner up Pat Pope with nett 56.
