IT was cold, it was wet and it was windy on Whitchurch Down, so normal cross country weather, for the second of the OCRA Tavistock area primary schools cross country races.
Year 3/4 girls went first with Claudia Jones of Meavy leading the runners home again, followed by Orla White of St Peter’s and Martha Rogers of Whitchurch. The boys’ race was won by Jamie Carlton, followed by James Waites, both from Whitchurch, and Oliver Walker of Tavistock.
Team scores after two races were – girls 1 St Peter’s, 2 Meavy, 3 Whitchurch; boys 1, Meavy, 2 St Peter’s, 3 Whitchurch. Schools (boys and girls combined) 1 Meavy, 2 St Peter’s, 3 Whitchurch.
Next it was the turn of the 5/6 girls. Meavy led the way again with Freya Page first and Penny Jones second, followed by Beatrice Venner of Whitchurch in third place. Joel Lake of Tavistock won the boys race, Nicolas Maczugowski of St Peter’s was second and William Elliott of Tavistock third.

Everyone is hoping for warm, dry weather at the final race, to be held at Yelverton Aerodrome on March 28.
