This season's Tavistock seven a-side football league was an eventful, exciting and enjoyable one, with a lot of goals, new teams and a former champion regaining the crown.
Many old faces returned this past season and also some new teams joined such as Princetown and MKBA.
The season didn't start the best for the defending champions Grub Up as they drew four of their first six games which gave a confident Lamerton side an early lead at the top of the table. There were also decent starts from MKBA, Inter, Leavealona and COSSA.
Lots of goals were scored with three teams netting more than 100! There were also many great individual scoring performances including when Leavealona's Matt Smallacombe and NIYMF's Paul Daymond both scored eight goals each in one game. The best goal of the season was scored by Crystal City's Nick Lane.
The two old rivals and the only winners of this league since its inception Lamerton and Grub Up kept the pace at the top all season. Grub Up defeated top of the table Lamerton 6-4 to close the gap to a couple of points but were unable to overtake their rivals and on the last day of the season Lamerton recorded a comfortable win to take back the league championship crown that they relinquished last season.
Special mention goes to the teams towards the bottom of the league such as Princetown, Real Sosobad and the A-Team who battled very hard all year and towards the end put together some big wins which will hopefully be a good momentum builder for next season.
The three top scorers in the league were: James Steer, Graham Galway and Matt Smallacombe
Barry Mountstevens for the league thanked the organising staff, the referees and all of the players for making this season the most enjoyable and exciting yet.
