Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs recorded their second victory of the week with this good win to move them up to third in the league table.
The first half was entertaining with both sides playing positively. The Lambs had the greater share of the play but the visitors always looked a threat.
Chris Menhenick almost opened the scoring when his thunderous header from Dave Hallett corner went inches over the bar. In the tenth minute right back Dan Hart joined the front men and his shot from 18 yards, went just wide of the target with the keeper well beaten.
Lambs centre back Matt David then gave away a foul some 25 yards from goal. The free kick was cleared, and resulted in a break down the middle, only for Johnny Morris to be denied by a fine save by the Torpoint keeper.
The Lambs continued to press with their fine passing game forcing the visitors into some last ditch defending. It was the home team who took a deserved lead in the 31st minute when Johnny Wyatt made a surging run down the right flank and his inch perfect cross found Johnny Morris, who side footed the ball home from six yards.
Tavistock continued to dominate and increased their lead in the 42nd minute. Dave Hallett who was controlling the middle of the park, took a corner kick on the right, which the keeper failed to collect and Chris Menhenick was on hand to turn and coolly slot the ball home from eight yards for a 2-0 interval lead.
The second half saw Torpoint come more into the game but the home team always looked comfortable at the back and there was little goalmouth action of note. The Lambs lost their fluent football during this period and got dragged into the long ball game that Torpoint employed.
With all the rain during the morning before kick-off the pitch stood up well, but as the game went on conditions became more difficult.
The Lambs fully deserved the win, and they kept a first clean sheet of the season. There were a number of good individual performances, but it was a fine all round team effort on the day.
