TAMAR and Tavy took five crews to Looe Gig Regatta last month; men’s A, ladies’ A, men’s veterans, ladies’ vets and mixed. Lovaely Cornish sunshine and calm waters were the conditions for the first few races, with the water getting choppier as the day went on.

Racing against some of the top clubs was great fun for the rowers with lots of overtaking and vying for position all the way around the kite course (three buoy turns).

Two of the ladies’ A team Claire Luxton and Susan Douglass raced back to back with the mixed crew first, which was a tall order but was rowed in the true spirit of gig racing with a smile on their faces! Everyone had a great day and thank Looe Gig Club for a well organised regatta, and look forward to returning next year.

Tamar and Tavy are now looking forward to their own regatta on October 1 when all will be welcome to come along, enjoy the fun and watch the racing.
