Tavistock men’s firsts 6

Bodmin men’s firsts 1

TAVISTOCK played their first home game of the season against a tough Bodmin side.

Although the opening 15 minutes saw both teams have equal possession of the ball it was the Reds who looked the more likely to score — Forshaw and Fenwick both going close with the latter having a ‘goal’ disallowed by umpire Graham Woolcock following a 30 yard run with the ball but the shot was judged to have been taken from outside of the D.

The opening goal did go the way of the home team and it was summer signing Mark Forshaw who scored it with an instinctive strike from the top of the D. Midfielder Dom Stanbury scored the second goal soon after when he squeezed the ball in from a tight angle, following a fine save by the Bodmin keeper from a Tavistock penalty corner. Forshaw claimed his second of the game with a well struck penalty corner. The visitors pulled a goal back just before the half time break from a penalty stroke.

The second half started much the same way as the first with both sides sharing the possession but with neither side able to convert their chances. Midway through the half Forshaw capped a fine man of the match performance scoring his third goal from a well worked penalty corner routine.

The Tavistock back line of Carr, Stanbury, Wood and Marchant were again in fine form and confidently neutralised any attacking threat from Bodmin. The hard working Richards scored again, this time with a smart reverse stick finish into the roof of the net.

Richards then turned provider as he played an incisive pass through the Bodmin midfield to forward Sam Willets, who had the composure to beat his marker before playing Fenwick through one on one with the keeper; Fenwick’s first touch got the ball of the ground and past the keeper before he struck the ball into the goal.

The Reds are one of three teams with maximum points but they sit at the top of the table with a superior goal difference after the opening two league games.
