THE monthly 5k run organised by Tavistock Athletic Club took place on Saturday.
The accurately measured and UKA licensed race which has been running for four years starts and finishes on Tavistock track. The route which is flat and fast takes in the footpath around the school before doing a loop of the Meadows’ park before returning to the track. The run is used by athletes, beginner runners and families alike to gauge their fitness and get that Saturday ‘feel good’ factor. Tavy Joggers also use it as the culmination of their popular 12 week ‘couch to 5k’ programme. On Saturday 60 runners completed the course, led home by Bart Thomas in 17 minutes 01 second from Tavistock AC followed by Jeremy Westmoor from Team H in Plymouth.
Course records were broken by Carolin Vorbeck (under 17 women) in 20.02 and Alison Ross (veteran 60 women) in 23.40. However, as always, it was not just about the fast runners it was about the achievement of many of the runners who had a go and for some completed their first ever 5k.
