ON a beautiful summer’s afternoon at Langsford Park on Saturday a fine football match between two good footballing teams provided good entertainment for the crowd
It was the home team that started the brighter creating three good openings in the opening minutes. Firstly a header from Jack Crago went inches over the bar, then Tallin Burns shot over from 12 yards and soon after Josh Grant saw his shot go inches wide of the target.
The Lambs opened their account in the 20th minute a good move saw the ball find Crago, his fine pass found Grant, who, with a fine square ball, picked out Liam Prynn in the penalty area, who calmly slotted the ball home.
Helston were really playing well but they found the home defence difficult to break down; they did manage to force a fine save from Josh Oak to deny Marks from levelling the scores. It remained a single goal difference at the interval.
Helston had a good spell at the start of the second half and Oak tipped a splendid long range effort from Cartan over the bar.
Back came the home team. First it was Burns that fired inches wide of the target, then Crago hit the cross bar, which was cleared. The Lambs doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Burns provided a beautiful cross for Grant to head home.
Midway through the half Kelvin Fyneboy replaced Burns. The game continued to flow from end to end with the visitors restricted to long range shots and long crosses into the penalty but Oak showed that he is a top quality goalkeeper with impeccable handling and judgement.
Alex Cairo then replaced Crago and shortly afterwards young Sam Clifton replaced the ever reliable and talented Dave Hallett. In the 82nd minute great work by Fyneboy saw him find Grant who made no mistake to give the Lambs a three goal cushion. Grant then missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead but he shot over the bar when well placed.
The Lambs completed the scoring in the 89th minute when Clifton made a superb run, gliding pass two defenders, before crossing the ball for Liam Prynn to slot home from close range.
It was a good team performance against a good Helston team, who worked tirelessly throughout.
There were a number of really good individual performances but their man of the match Josh Oak, for his superb handling of any dangerous crosses and a couple of really good saves at crucial times during the game.

TAVISTOCK got off to a good start last week playing at a high tempo, which resulted in them opening the scoring in the 10th minute. From a corner kick taken by Tallin Burns he found Liam Prynn at the far post, whose header back into the danger area, saw Lewis Daw head home from five yards.
Eight minutes later the Lambs doubled their advantage when a fine move saw Burns provide the perfect pass to man of the match Josh Grant who flashed the ball home from 18 yards.
On the half hour mark the visitors made it three when a shot from Grant rebounded back off the post, and Tyler Elliot was on hand to slot the ball home.
The first real attempt on the visitors’ goal came in the 35th minute when Josh Oak made a fine save to deny Stevens from reducing the arrears.
The second half was a repeat of the first with the Lambs dominating the game; it took just five minutes to add to their goal tally, when Burns calmly slotted the ball home from 15 yards. Four minute later it was five when Grant volleyed home a Prynn cross.
On the hour a magnificent defence splitting pass from Warren Daw put Prynn in on goal and he calmly rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.
A lapse of concentration by the visitors saw the ball lost just outside the penalty area, but keeper Oak made a great save to deny Rowe from reducing the deficit.
The Lambs added two more goals in the last ten minutes, when Dan Sullivan rammed the ball home from eight yards. Goal number eight was a classic when a terrific passing move saw the ball find Tyler Elliot on the right flank his perfect cross was fired home by Warren Daw to complete the scoring.
This was another great performance, each player was on top form, and this was another step nearer to securing runners up position in the league.

BOTH teams played some good football from the kick-off last Thursday with Josh Grant going close for the home team and Perez forcing a save by home goalkeeper Josh Oak.
It was the Lambs that opened the scoring in 16th minute following fine work by Luke Brown, who beat two defenders before providing the perfect cross for Warren Daw to head home from seven yards.
Ten minutes later the home team doubled their advantage when a Dave Hallett corner kick was partially cleared but Daw was first to react to the loose ball and fire home from six yards.
The Lambs continued to look the more dangerous with Newquay restricted to counter attacks. The Lambs were awarded a free kick 22 yards from goal, Tallin Burns hit the perfect shot, hard and low into the far corner of the goal to give the home team a three- goal lead.
Early in the second half the Lambs should have added to their advantage, bot both Brown and Grant saw good efforts well saved by Roberts in the visitors’ goal.
Then against the run of play, the Lambs payed the penalty when they lost possession in a dangerous area which allowed the visitors to create a chance which Price finished off with aplomb. This lifted the visitors and they almost scored another when Turner went inches wide of the target. Newquay were now having their best period in the game, and looked capable of reducing their arrears.
With 15 minutes remaining the Lambs restored their three goal advantage when Josh Robins scored the goal of the game as he thundered the ball home from 25 yards, giving Roberts in the visitors’ goal no chance of saving. Back came Newquay when Price fired home from eight yards in the 78th minute.
The Lambs regained their composure and in creased their lead in the 92nd minute when captain Lewis Daw headed home from a corner kick to complete the scoring.
Man of the match was Dan Evans who was superb in the centre of defence.
