TAVISTOCK based Brit Spirit Martial Arts are in great spirits after their club had a major boost this week.
The club have joined forces with the British Taekwon-Do Federation.
On November 1 the club, which has been operating out of Tavistock Comm-unity College Sports Centre for more than seven years, became a member of the BTF and increased the opportunities and benefits available to its’ members.
‘We’re very excited about this new development,’ said Brit Spirit’s chief instructor, Peter Smith.
‘We’re a local club, relatively small in the scheme of things. Our new association with the British Taekwon-Do Federation opens a world of opportunities to us.
‘We now have connections with other BTF clubs in the region, which allows us to network and organise local competitions, seminars and training camps.
‘We remain members of the British Taekwon-Do Council and retain our recognition from Sport England.
‘BTF membership also gives us access to national and international tournaments and the chance for our members to train with masters and grandmasters in addition to their normal club training.’
Plans are already under way for them to host their first competition at Tavistock in December.
‘We are planning a friendly junior Taekwon-Do tourn-ament to give some of our younger members their first taste of what a martial arts competition is all about,’ said Peter.
