THIS was an encounter between last season’s Division West champions Helston Athletic and Division East champions Tavistock AFC.

The home team took the lead in the ninth minute when Jamie Thirkle scored from 12 yards.

However, back came the Lambs and they equalised in the dying minutes of the first half when defender Sam Chitty headed home from a corner kick.

Both teams pressed for a winner in the second half with both sides having appeals for a penalty turned down by the referee.

Helston were denied by the woodwork when Phil Cattran struck the bar. Both sides played some good football but the game ended in a draw, which was a fair result between two evenly matched teams.
