Tavistock Reserves 1

Edgcumbe 1

TAVISTOCK Reserves entertained Edgcumbe at Langsford Park on Saturday looking for a better result than when the two teams met in the cup a few weeks ago which saw Edgcumbe go through winning 4-1.

Tavistock starting brightly and immediately putting pressure on the Edgcumbe defence with some fast paced attacks. This paid off after eight minutes when a lovely one-two from James Phelps and Sam Hicks send Phelps able to whip in a dangerous cross which Edgcumbe’s centre back put into his own net — 1-0 to Tavistock.

Less than a minute later it should have been two with Sam Hicks finding space to fire a right foot shot against the bar. Scott Rennie could have added another again minutes later after being sent through one on one with the Edgcumbe keeper.

However, Edgcumbe worked themselves back into the game and then had two chances of their own — first a great one on one save by Jamie Castle in the Tavistock goal and then again minutes later a great save by Castle and a goal line clearance by captain Scott Wellington.

The rest of the half was played in the middle of the pitch with neither team really managing to have any real chances.

The second half started with Edgcumbe pushing hard to find an equaliser which they did on the hour when a free kick came in and a back post header found an unmarked Edgcumbe player on the six yard box to nod home. The last ten minutes saw Tavistock push for a winner and if it was not for some brave defending Tavistock could have found the winner.

One-all in the end was a good result for both teams but Tavistock may be feeling if they had scored those early goals it would have been a different game.
