Tavistock AFC reserves 1
THIS was a hard fought point involving two improving sides. Missing seven players, as well as two players stepping up to first team action, the Tavistock Reserves were up against it on Saturday.
Launceston proved to be a good passing side who kept possession well and at times showed some excellent touches.
Fortunately for Tavistock they had Blaine Loughran and Lewis Guest in commanding form, organising the defence and keeping Launceston’s possession at a distance.
Launceston were restricted to numerous long range efforts and, despite their possession, it was Tavistock that had the better opportunities in the first half, forcing the Launceston keeper into two fine saves. Bayley Williams’ curling effort, in particular, troubled the keeper.
At half-time, some slight tinkering with the side’s formation gave us a more compact look but it was Launceston that took the lead with a header from a corner kick.
That seemed to spur Tavistock into action and the lads showed character to keep a good defensive shape and thwart the Launceston strikers.
The visitors grew more into the game, forcing Launceston back and, as confidence rose, opportunities appeared. Connor Spear and Scott Sanders became a real threat.
With 20 minutes left, Spear found room in midfield, strode forward and drove a superb equaliser into the top corner from 25 yards. From then on it was Tavistock that looked the more likely to score but a winner did not arrive.
Overall, 1-1 was a fair result especially with the quality of Tavistock’s defending.
Tavistock Reserves remain unbeaten this season in the ECPL.
