TAVISTOCK referee Allen Lewis (pictured second from right) was on international duty at the weekend when he officiated at a Cerebral Palsy international football match.

Allen, a Devon FA referee/disability referee and vice chairman of Plymouth and West Devon Combination men’s league was selected to be an assistant referee at St George’s Park in Staffordshire for the game between Great Britain and Russia, who were the silver medalists at 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Allen said: ‘A match that proved that ability counts with a lot of pace , skill, vision and class. What an amazing experience and honour it was to be assistant referee on an Cerebral Palsy international.

‘Russia won 0-4 but to see and be a part of a game like this will last with me forever. To stand through both countries national anthems was a moment I shall not forget.’
