UPOTTERY 1
OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE FIRSTS 7
OKEHAMPTON went to Upottery knowing it is a tough place to go and that they had to be on top of their game to get any kind of result from the match.
The first half saw Argyle have the lion’s share of possession and more chances than the home side with Aaron Dearing in goal being largely untroubled throughout.
Oke had some great spells of quick passing football and created some good chances only for the home keeper to deny them on several occasions. It took until the 35th minute before the deadlock was broken by a brilliant passing move which was finished off by Ed Squire.
The second half started in similar fashion with Argyle keeping the ball well and playing some great passing football which led to a second goal on 55 minutes scored by Brad Ausden. This was closely followed by a third from Redd Cann who finished off another great move involving several players. The home side’s heads dropped at this point and Oke scored again two minutes later to make it 4-0 with Alden getting a well-deserved goal.
Argyle continued to press and were rewarded for their hard work with a fifth goal coming from substitute Luke Mortimore on 63 minutes following some great play out wide by fellow substitute Josh Tickner. On 74 minutes Ed Squire hit his second and Argyle’s sixth which rounded off a great performance for him earning him man of the match.
Just when the home side thought they had finished Luke Mortimore picked the ball up just outside of the box and curled it expertly into the corner making it seven.
Upottery pressed well in the last 10 minutes and after a goalmouth scramble were rewarded with a late consolation goal much to the frustration of Oke’s defence and goalkeeper who deserved a clean sheet.
