FA Vase

Tavistock AFC 3

Camelford 2

THE Lambs progress to the next  round of the FA Vase, after a closely fought contest against an industrious, hard working Camelford side. The game was once again played in torrential rain throughout the whole game, however both teams adapted to the condition and played some good football.

A post denied the Lambs taking the lead in the third minute when, following fine work by Josh Grant, Luke Brown’s fierce shot hit the upright and cleared for a corner kick. Two minutes later a good move saw Josh Robins and Jack Crago exchange passes; Robins powerful cross into the six yard box was brilliantly cleared for a corner kick by centre back Hambly, as he  beat Josh Grant to the ball.

Having survived these two scares Camelford began to get into the game and in the eighth minute a fine shot from Charlie Hambly was superbly saved by Josh Oak, who at full stretch palmed the ball away for a corner kick. The corner kick saw a goalmouth scramble which was cleared. Josh Oak was called into action again two minutes later to make a fine save from Hopkinson.

This stirred the Lambs into action and a really good move saw Josh Grant’s fine effort well saved by Williams in the visitors’ goal.

The home team took the lead in the 24th minute when from a free kick captain Lewis Daw flashed the ball home from eight yards into the corner of the net.

Tavistock were now in the ascendancy - Tegan Rosequest put the ball in the net but was ruled off side; soon after Williams brought off a great save to deny Jack Crago.

The Lambs got punished for these missed chances, when in the 40th minute Camelford levelled the score. The home team failed to clear the first header from a free kick; the ball fell kindly to Cowling, who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Back came the Lambs, three minutes later they were back in front, when a fine cross from a free kick taken by Jake Miller, saw Dan Evans rise high and power a wonderful thunderbolt header into the top corner of the net.

Camelford were on the front foot at the start of the second half as Hopkinson shot wide from an acute angle. Back came the home team and a good move saw a Tegan Rosequest cross find Josh Grant but his header was just too high and flashed over the bar. Lewis Daw then had a header well saved by Williams.

On the hour Lambs’ manager Stuart Henderson made a substitution with Tyler Elliot replacing Luke Brown.

Five minutes later slightly against the run of play, the visitors levelled the scores. Once again the Lambs will be disappointed at the way they conceded this goal, when the defence was opened up by a simple pass that allowed Cowling to get his second goal of the evening.

Dave Hallett replaced Jake Miller for Tavistock in the 70th minute. Shortly afterwards the visitors missed a great opportunity to take the lead when a poor clearance by the home defence, the ball fell to Cowling but his shot flew over the bar.

In the 80th minute a fine move saw the ball worked into a good area and Tyler Elliot made no mistake by firing the ball home from 12 yards. The Lambs then missed three good chances in a matter of minutes with Jack Crago hitting the post from a Tyler Elliot cross - the same player then shot wide of the target when well placed following a fine move by Robins and Grant.

Robins then saw his shot saved by Williams before Grant and Crago both had efforts saved by Williams in the visitors goal.Tavistock saw out the remainder of the game to go into the next round, when they visit Odd Down of the Western Premier League.

The Lambs were far from their best in this fixture, they failed to get their quick tempo passing game into action. Their movement off the ball was unusually slow, which resulted in players being caught in possession, or trying to do to much individually.

Man of the match was Dan Evans with his all round performance and his goal which was one of the best headed goals seen at Langsford for a long time.

Sticker FC 0

Tavistock AFC 8

THE Lambs maintain their fine unbeaten start to their league programme, with another resounding win against newly promoted Sticker.

The game was played in poor conditions with a strong wind and heavy rain.

The visitors were fast out of the blocks and took the lead in the sixth minute; Josh Robins made a penetrating run down the left flank and his fine pass saw Josh Grant use his strength to win the ball and his square ball found team mate Tyler Elliot, who flashed the ball home from 14 yards.

This stirred Sticker into action and they almost equalised in the 10th minute when Josh Oak was forced to make a really good save to deny McAvon.

It was the Lambs, though, that were in control and if it had not been for Rosevear in the home goal making two great saves, Jack Crago and Tegan Rosenquest would have increased the lead.

The second goal came on 20 minutes when a fine ball from Dan Evans found Josh Grant, who cushioned a perfect header down into the path of Warren Daw who smacked the ball home from 12 yards.

Two minutes later the Lambs went three goals up, when another great move involving four players, saw the ball find Josh Grant; his shot was parried away by goalkeeper Rosevear but the ball fell to Tyler Elliot, who fired the ball home from 10 yards.

Just before the half hour mark the Lambs made it four, Tegan Rosequest made a terrific run down the right, cutting into the penalty area; he unselfishly squared the ball for Josh Grant to slot the ball home.

Sticker continued to try and get back into the game, playing some neat football. They almost reduced the arrears in the 37th minute when Josh Oak made a great save to again deny McAvoy, to retain the four goal advantage at the interval.

The home team started brightly in the second period when Bowyer shot over the bar when well placed.

Tavistock continued to dominate possession and continued to create scoring opportunities.  A fine move saw Josh Grant shoot over the bar and minutes later Jack Crago had a shot well saved by Rosevear.

On the hour Tavistock manager Stuart Henderson made his substitutions, with Ryan Swain, Luke Brown and Jake Miller replacing, Dan Evans, Dave Hallett, and Warren Daw. Four minutes later the Lambs increased their advantage when Tyler Elliot provided the perfect pass for Josh Grant to score.

The home team never gave up and Josh Oak was forced to make a brilliant save, diving full length to push the ball away for a corner to deny Cockings in the 70th minute.

Five minutes later the visitors got their sixth goal of the game, when from a corner kick Lewis Daw was on hand to fire the ball home.

The home team really had their backs to the wall in the last 15 minutes as the Lambs looked for more goals. Both Crago and Grant went close before good work by young Tyler Elliot provided the pass that saw Jack Crago fire low into the corner of the net. The scoring was completed in the 86th minute when another fine passing move opened up the home defence, Crago placed his shot over keeper Rosevear into the top corner of the net.

This was another fine all round team effort in poor playing conditions, with several good individual performances from Tavistock.

The man of the match was Tyler Elliot who scored twice and had involvement in many of the attacking moves.

The team remain undefeated in the league, and 15 points adrift of league leaders Plymouth Argyle, but they do have six games in hand, because of their successful cup runs. If the team can maintain this level throughout the season then it will be a very exciting one.
