Mevagissey 2

LAMERTON maintain on their winning ways by beating bottom of the league Mevagissey.

With Captain Josh McDonald injured it left Dan Behennah to take the goalkeepers jersey, and with no Paul Breyley in defence Ben Pridham was back to slot in, and a well deserved first start for youngster Jake Stuart up front.

Lamerton struggled to get into the match and could not play their normal two touch football, with the poor weather conditions not helping their cause; however, on the 20th minute good work from Jamie Court and Paul Cowling in midfield played inform Robbie Court; his one-two with Nathan Panter led to Court slotting home the first.

Mevagissy soon bounced back when a neat corner was headed in at the far post.

Both teams looked likely to score and the game opened up, then a clever corner by Lamerton left Jack Payne to volley home a screamer into the top corner to make 2-1 into the break.

In the second half Lamerton found another gear and took the game to the visitors. Blair Vanstone on the wing was a constant threat; Glen Holmes in defence was outstanding and Daryl Panter was a pest to the Mevigissey defence and it was not long until Lamerton scored their third.

It came by a penalty and up stepped Nathan Panter who made no mistake.

Mevagissey pushed and never gave up, but their heads went down when Panter ran past two players to smash the ball home.

Within minutes it was five when Court got pulled down in the box, Robbie grabbed the ball and neatly stroked home the penalty, the visitors had one last attempt at goal and they scored to finish the match and scoring at 5-2.

Their were a few candidates for man of the match, Jamie Court who played with heart and Glen Holmes like a warrior in defence and Robbie Court’s consistency but man of the match was Glen Holmes.
