Ivybridge 2

Tavistock AFC 5

TAVISTOCK AFC Lambs were without central defenders Lewis Daw and Dan Evans due to injury. Midfielders Dave Hallett and Lewis’s brother Warren ably took their places in what was still a very strong line up.

The game got off to a cracking pace and there could have been a goal at both ends in the opening minutes. Ricky Shepperd got to the by-line for the Lambs but his cut back eluded everyone and at the other end a half clearance was pounced on for Sutton to shoot wide.

The first goal came after five minutes when Glynn Hobbs for Tavistock appeared to shrug off a defender’s challenge with the goal at his mercy but the referee whistled for an infringement by the home defence and awarded a penalty for the Lambs. It appeared to be a harsh decision but Hobbs took full advantage to shoot low into the bottom corner.

Josh Oak in the Tavistock goal punched away a Shanley free kick after 10 minutes but it was the Lambs making all the running with their passing game. Another chance came Ivybridge’s way just prior to the half hour as Sutton placed a header into the hands of Oak from a Shanley corner.

The Lambs then increased their lead with Josh Robbins and Jack Crago combined down the wing or Crago to set up Hobbs who let fly from outside the area to give keeper Lomas no chance.

Oak then brought off a double save from Shanley as Tavistock went into half time two goals to the good.

The second half was just five mins old when the home side got back into the game with the Lambs caught out in defence with Oak rushing out from goal to foul the attacker for the second penalty of the day. Defender Youlden  made no mistake from the spot.

The comeback was short lived as within five minutes the visitors gave themselves a two goal cushion when Steve Rogers won the ball in midfield and a slide rule pass put Crago in on goal and he coolly slotted home.

On the hour Rogers was subbed for Luke Brown but it was the home side to yet again reduce the deficit as a through ball allowed Sutton to score on 65 minutes

Again it was short lived as the Lambs scored three minutes later with Robbins and Hobbs combining to set up Brown as he cut in from the right to make it 4-2.

At the 70th minute the scoring was complete as Hobbs picked the ball up 30 yards from goal to run at the defence and slide the ball past Lomas to wrap up a very good all round display for the Lambs that took them to the top of the table.
