ROMAN GLASS ST GEORGE 0

TAVISTOCK AFC 4

THIS was the first of three away games in eight days for Tavistock.

With the artificial 4G pitch it was expected to be suitable for the Lambs’ passing game and they did not disappoint for within the first five minutes they opened their account. Josh Robbins and Jack Cargo combined down the left for the latter to send in a low cross for Josh Grant to slot home at the near post.

Tavistock played some slick and a fast moving passing game in these early stages and were unfortunate not to increase their lead as Crago fired one in on keeper Grimshaw, Grant went close again after Jordan Annear had set him up and Grimshaw fumbled another effort with Luke Brown shooting just wide.

The home side’s first real threat came from a corner after 15 minutes but keeper Tom Watson easily saved; he then punched another effort from a corner on 23 minutes before the Lambs increased their lead on 26 minutes. A great through ball out wide saw full back Ben Cross get into the area out wide to send in a fierce shot that Grimshaw could only parry for the ball to fly in at the far post.

Minutes later Crago set up Annear but his attempted chip over the keeper lacked pace and was collected. However, the visitors went into half time 3-0 up Calum Watson sent Crago down the wing to cut inside his marker to score at the near post.

Any chance of any sort of comeback rapidly disappeared for the home side when Josh Morgan-Williams received a straight red card for an elbow on defender Tom Strike. Brown then saw an effort saved by the keeper as the first half drew to a close.

Tavistock did not let up after the interval and further increased their lead on 49 minutes. Another slick passing movement saw Cross get to the by-line to send in a low cross for Annear to turn into the net from close range.

A triple substitution for the Lambs on 65 minutes saw Liam Prynn, Tallon Burns and Alex Cairo replace Watson, Annear and his brother Tom. This final period of the game saw Burns’ effort tipped away for a corner followed by another that the keeper pushed onto a post. Cairo then saw his effort hit the cross bar and finally Robbins shot settled into the net with five minutes remaining but was adjudged to be offside.

This was a good performance from the Lambs squad all playing their part in a thoroughly entertaining game, especially for the small contingent of the ‘Lambs Army’ whose flock appears to be growing.
