St Blazey 2

Tavistock AFC 6

GLYNN Hobbs and Warren Daw were back in the starting line up for Tavistock having both served their suspensions; captain Lewis Daw missed out through injury.

The Lambs started at a fast pace with their passing game in full flow which saw them take a two goal lead in the opening 15 minutes. The first came in the 10th minute when a really good move saw Josh Grant find Jack Crago, who cut into the penalty area before unleashing an unstoppable shot that nestled in the corner of the net. Four minutes later Hobbs made a great run before delivering the perfect cross to find Grant, his thunderbolt of a shot whistled past Painter into the net. The Lambs almost added a third when Ricki Shepherd headed just wide of the target following a corner kick.

The visitors then seemed to switch off the gas and St Blazey started to get a foot hold in the game. The hosts reduced the deficit on the half hour, when slack marking saw the Lambs defence split open, allowing Liam Jones to round the advancing Josh Oak and slot the ball home.

This stirred the Lambs back into action  and they should have increased their lead before the interval. A terrific move involving Hobbs and Josh Robins saw Shane Krac fire over from ten yards. More good goal keeping by Painter and some bad finishing the score remained as a single goal advantage at the interval.

Oak was called upon to make a smart save from St Blazey’s Jones early in the second half. Then Painter made a terrific save to deny Krac. Five minutes into the half the Lambs increased their lead, a magnificent pass from Hobbs, saw Grant fire home from 16 yards.

The visitors made it four in the 58th minute when Crago and Robins combined well to open up the home defence, the former’s pass found Shepherd who calmly lobbed the advancing keeper to score.

On the hour Crago and Robins combined well, but Robins’ fine effort was pushed away by Painter for a corner kick. Dave Hallett’s kick found Grant who fired home to complete his hat-trick.

St Blazey scored their second goal against the run of play, when they broke away from defence, catching the visitors off guard, leaving Jones unmarked and he made no mistake from ten yards.

Hobbs finally got his name on the score sheet when he out out paced the home defence, rounded the keeper and slot the ball home to complete the scoring.

This was another fine team performance by Tavistock, no doubt pleased to record another win, but disappointed at conceding two goals.

There were dominant per-formances by Robins, Crago Hobbs, Grant, Krac and Hallett.
