BERE Alston United arranged a ‘blow the cobwebs out after Christmas’ friendly against South West Peninsula premier side Dobwalls at the Tavistock 3G pitch at Crowndale.

Bere Alston fielded a really young starting 11 and held back the older, more experienced players to the bench.

In the first half Bere played some great football and deservedly took a one goal lead through the impressive Sam Hicks. The ‘home side’ should have scored two or three more goals but the Dobwalls keeper made some fine one-on-one saves and a lack of concentration from United’s young centre halves handed Dobwalls a tap-in to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half saw Dobwalls’ experience and superior strength take its toll on the young lads as Bere were penned into their own half for long periods and eventually this pressure told as the visitors grabbed a winner 10 minutes from time.

Bere Alston United manager Will Westlake said: ‘It was a great friendly for us where the young lads all played fantastic and gained much needed experience from a strong team in the premier league. It was great for fitness and a very worthwhile match.’
